“Everything flows”, Heraclitus.

Germinal, germ, seed, origin, embryo, prime, cell, sprout. All of these words bloom and are thought upon in this attractive set of small, minute, and delicate pictorial pieces by Maria Jose Romero (Mexico City, 1970.) Profound and subtle is the treatment she brings to the infinite theses of multiple Genesis that Nature so vastly offers and yet, she strives for never leaving Human Nature aside. The central theme of the show is to put into perspective the supreme activity nature goes through in order to recreate and renew itself by the use of embryos that dialectically combine integration and disintegration. Explosion and Implosion. Our attention is drawn on how this set of twenty works, with its miniscule dimensions (15 x 60 cm. AVG), elaborated carefully and delicately on acrylic with mixed techniques on wood and practically caressed during its conception, manages to make room for a universe of plethoric energy, to an infinite field filled with facilitating and creative forces that continuously reproduce intangible spaces.

Each piece invites the observer to immerse on an intimate dialogue, exclusive, self-bound; to interact with the material, to travel into it; and it is precisely the little space created by this exercise which makes the work…big. As an audience, the Mexican artist’s show forces us to reduce our vision cone and get closer thus creating a mirroring dialogue, it generates a magnetic intrigue which carries us into an almost metaphysical atmosphere of intertwining living bodies and appealing energies.

Certainly, a set of pieces of great sensuality, erotica, and candor, very characteristic of the gestures and strokes in the visual and plastic language expressed in the previous series and shows by Maria Jose Romero, but with the specific difference of expressing, in essence, a perpetual dynamism. A permanent flux plastically defined by layers, smooth coats, levels, membranes, skins, motions, and profound nuances which eavesdrop into the mystery of living organisms.

They are landscapes or sceneries of the interior of vital entities that express a permanent flow as if witnessing a sensual, melodic ritual dance. They achieve a satisfying aesthetic experience that caters to and is directed to sensorial and erotic lands. More so than those that belong to reason.
